Imprisoning people for striking is crazy. Firing is 1 thing, but jesus....

I can't imagine this would be remotely constitutional (though, with Trump-appointed judges, who knows?), but really shows who they are.

Teachers are not required to keep two separate homes. But the sentiment is not terribly far off. coming from someone who hates the guy

Mech0T1 . 2018-04-24 19:51:49
Not sure if pols are *required* to keep two homes, but if they are, give 'em teacher salary plus cost of 2nd home rent/mortgage only.

distainv . 2018-04-24 19:53:24
They have to have a home in their home state/district and they work somewhere else. that is rarely a reasonable commute.

Well, if their strike is illegal (laws on which public employees can strike vary), if they're in contempt of a court order not to strike,(1)

Mech0T1 . 2018-04-24 19:55:10
Fair enough, but I think my point stands. And, are they in any way reimbursed for those two homes already? Or 100% out of pocket for both?

Average teacher salary in Colorado is $46,155 per Vox. Average Colorado State Senate, $30,000, per ballotopedia.

They might get a tax break? Personally i think govt officials should be paid the Avg salary of their constituency. County for state reps

HeyOP . 2018-04-24 19:57:40
It's at the state level, not federal.

Methinks he was referring more to these people https://i.imgur.com/kBaPPkm.png, but point taken since context is about local pols.

state or district for federal. But not taxed at all while they are in office. (i think it dumb to tax federal wages)

distainv . 2018-04-24 19:59:10
Still. My local state rep would have a 2 hour drive to work every day. And im not even half way to the furthest reaches of my state.

Mech0T1 . 2018-04-24 20:00:06
That's reasonable, since that average salary would likely closely track with cost of living in that area.

Are you implying that politicians are required to have two homes? Got a source for that?

HeyOP . 2018-04-24 20:02:02
1) And many have moved for work, even out of state. I think the idea of attacking politicians at the paycheck can be dangerous in that it

HeyOP . 2018-04-24 20:02:07
2) may only encourage corruption by way of dirty money, but I think "required" is strong language that isn't entirely accurate.

distainv . 2018-04-24 20:02:33
Federally the constitution for example would be a source. the reps must live in their state and work in dc

And the removal of all taxes doesn't punish them for having a nicer place before being elected.

it also encourages them to help their state over their party. Helping the state increases their pay!

Mech0T1 . 2018-04-24 20:05:57
Yeah, I took that as implied ;) And an influx of low-paying jobs (walmart?, amazon? would actually drag them down. Interesting dynamic.

How can someone be forced to do a job in a country that calls itself free?
13 4
distainv . 2018-04-24 20:10:22
Yup! As for teachers I think they could use a small bump from what i have seen BUT! They should NEVER have to pay for school supplies

Around here 50G is fair for a job that gives you loads of time off. ASSUMING your money isn't spent on your job. Also you could give them

things like tax cuts for student loans, housing if they live in their district.

Mech0T1 . 2018-04-24 20:12:44
Well, depending on the region some need a big bump. If the logic for execs is "you gotta pay to get the good ones", should be for teachers 2

They're free to quit if they're unhappy. Usually, the laws only cover public safety workers (ie cops), but, like I said, the laws vary.

Colorado cost of living is relatively high. And I don't know many non-college teachers who work 8mo/yr. School year usually sept-june.

Great way to make teachers better is take tenure and throw it out the fucking window. And yea some area's could use a pay bump.

If we ignore the overtime many teachers spend grading and planning lessons, and also forget about the out-of-pocket classrooms supplies...
17 2
Mech0T1 . 2018-04-24 20:36:20
Ok, so that would be 9mo, not 8. Salary/month drops quite a bit with that change in denominator. Our region is end of June.
