How much was your out-of-pocket?

kisselFL . 2019-03-21 16:26:31
Paying out of pocket wouldn't be $96,000.

It would still be significant. My understanding is that hospitals mark up prices but will settle for ~1/3 if you don't have insurance.

Just $1,500 thankfully. My wife just switched to my insurance or it would have been $6k.

I got quoted $1800 for an MRI a few years ago. They dropped it to $500 because I paid out of pocket.

Hospitals only charge that much because insurance companies are there. Why charge a reasonable rate if ludicrous rates still get paid?

Pffft...96,000...I inject that much money every month for the past 40 years...I'm a deadman 2 months after I lose my healthcare...Literally!

He had insurance through work but it was terrible. He was stuck with a 20k out of pocket bill for 2 nights in the hospital.

What would they find? In a free market they can charge any amount of money they want without reason.

But it isn't a free market. It is a regulated market.
