I'm sorry but the transformation at 1:45 from the more harsh and loud skating into a smoother style as Ewan McGregor begins to sing is extraordinary and shows just how much thought they put into how the skating matches the music, subtle but perfect

I love Ice Dance because of virtue/moir! It is much better than Pairs skating, for me, because i can enjoy the dance without worrying about jumps and throws that interrupts the flow of the programs, and there is so much more creativity in Ice dance, ballroom dancing on ice!

Let me put it this way for you. Tessa and Scott could have skated to the moonlight Sonata, what the French skated to, and it would have taken your breath away. The have the range for that, and then some. Now imagine the French skate to moulin rouge. It would have been laughable. That, in a nutshell, is why the Canadians are 2 time Olympic champions. Should have been 3 time champions, if judging had been fair in sochi.

It’s almost been a year and I’m an absolute mess crying over this spectacular performance — I don’t think I’ll ever watch anything for beautiful! So much has changed now and I miss them in interviews and on the ice! I’m not naive enough to think they’d last forever but it doesn’t mean it hurts any less knowing they just won’t ever have their lives revolve around each other like they did for their comeback. I know there is another tour in the works but it just isn’t the same, and sue me for loving them so much but 21 years is a long time and their love for each other is so important and inspiring and it’s sad to think they’ll go their separate ways and never be as close as they were in those few minutes

After watching this, I can see why some people may say they are “better” than Torvill and Dean, but I, however, have to disagree. They are both absolutely amazing, but in totally different ways. At the time that Torvill and Dean were competing, between 1970-1994, you were allowed to be more creative with your dancing, whilst still showing your skills and abilities. They expressed every movement with the music. And that is what made them so incredible, because they were so clever with the way they moved to the music, each move flowed to the next with ease. And their steps were always so intricate. In nearly every routine they do, they stay connected not only by hand but by eye connection (any routine they didn't do that constantly, was merely because of the music they had, which required them to express their emotions towards to the audience a bit more - for example, their 1994 routine). Virtue and Moir, on the other hand, I can see are fantastic, but in a different way. In Olympics now, it’s less about the expression, and more about technique, foot work etc, and because of this I can see they are brilliant at what they do in that aspect. But from the moment it started, I could sense no connection until the music changed, where there was more expression, unlike I would constantly feel with Torvill and Dean. But these are different times. So in this day and age, where the rules have changed considerably, Virtue and Moir do excel. But to compare them to Torvill and Dean, whose dancing is completely different and at the time, was considered exceptional, is silly. That’s like comparing One Direction to The Beatles. There may be many people that consider The Beatles better, there may be many people that consider One Direction better. But they are from different generations, where the style of music is different. And over the years, as music has expanded and changed, so has peoples taste. So therefore, a young person may consider One Direction better because that’s the type of music they listen to. That’s the type of music that they always hear as its always on Radio 1. Someone from a older generation on the other hand, may say The Beatles are better, they have grown up with them and seen what they did with music. And then there are people who enjoy both, who don’t compare them because though they are groups/bands, their musical style is different, and they enjoy them for different reasons. It is easy to compare two bands or artists from the same generation, but of different generations is, I would say, out of the question. And that is how I feel it is with these two pairs. You can not compare them. Simply because, they are from different times.

Whoever decided to change Tessa's arm positions for the lift at the 4 minute mark was brilliant (She did a sweeping move at Canadian Nationals). Here, it's simple but raw and so full of emotion and tension. It was the perfect movement to cap off such a beautiful and dramatic performance.
